Pētījuma dalībnieki: Pētījumā kopumā piedalījās 1842 dalībnieki (3684 acis) vecumā no 10 līdz 86 gadiem.
Master thesis is written in Latvian, in computer typesetting on 68 pages. It contains 41 figures, 5 tabeles. There are 63 references to literature sources.
Key words: corneal surface, irregularity of a corneal surface, corneal asymmetry index, corneal regularity index, tear film.
Purpose: Evaluate significance of corneal surface regularity in optometrist’s daily work by analyzing corneal surface quality.
Subjects: Altogether 1842 subjects (3684 eyes) aged between 10 and 86 were enrolled in the study.
Method: Indexes of corneal surface regularity were determined by using an autorefractometer Tomey RC - 5000 and tested by a computerized corneal topographer Tomey TMS - 3.
Results and conclusions: 1) 5,2 percent of all human population have corneal surface irregularity. 3,1 % of all the eyes tested with the autorefractometer RC - 5000 at least one parameter related to corneal surface regularity is above the normal value. The measured values of the parameters are as follow: KRI = 2,1 %, KAI = 0,5 % and KAI + KRI = 0,5 %. 2) Individuals aged above 45 the values of corneal regularity parameters B and C can be observed three times more often compared to individuals aged below 45. 3) The strongest correlation was found between the KAI and asymmetry values of Fourier analysis provided by the autorefractometer and the topographer (r = 0,85, p << 0,05). 4) In the study it was found that week correlation (r = 0,41, p << 0,05) exists between corneal regularity indexes and the best visual acuity achieved by spectacle correction. Reduction in the best visual acuity achieved by spectacle correction is expected in the case when both KAI and KRI values are above the normal values. 5) A tear film plays important role in corneal irregularity as observed KRI values are above the normal values in the case of pathologies of tears. Usage of Oftagel influences reduction of KRI values significantly (p<0,003). 6) While acquiring abnormal values of the corneal asymmetry index and the corneal regularity index care must be taken during regular evaluation of the cornea as visual acuity may be visus = 1 even if a pathological corneal process is in progress.
