Darba Simbolu un saīsinājumu izmantošana piezīmēs mērķis ir pētīt konsekutīvās tulkošanas piezīmju rakstīšanā izmantojamos saīsinājumus un simbolus, to praktisko pielietojumu piezīmju rakstīšanā.
Simbolu un saīsinājumu izmantošana piezīmēs būtiski mazina laika patēriņu, ļauj pierakstīt idejas un jēdzienus, nevis vārdus un mazina tulka īslaicīgās atmiņas noslogojumu, tā uzlabojot vispārējo sniegumu.
