Passing and coming centuries in future are leaving impressions in the society and communication. Radikal social shanges and tehnikal progress has made a string of communication revolution. At the end it made new relations between people, it’s matter form, and methods.
Despite the fact that society distrusts advertisement to a certain extent, it still obeys it. It is hard to imagine such social environment, where there would be no such thing as advertisement. Advertisement is a sort of liturgy of the contemporary people, which most of them do not fully understand, however they still sing along with it. The activity of adverstising serves as a psychological ground for formation of the new cultural environment, cultural standards and system of virtues. The socio – cultural aspects of advertising and the ethical and aesthetical categories are closely interconnected. A conflict may arise between the personal notion of ethics and business. These kinds of solutions are comlicated due to the fact that it is hard to balance within these limits – the advertisement has to be effective and at the same time also ethical.
The advertisement material created by Katrīna Neiburga for the Latvian National Opera performance ‘’Leļļu opera’’ (Lit. ‘’Opera of Dolls’’) caused repercussions in Latvia and abroad. The State Police discerned a material of pornographic nature in the adversting poster ‘’kailais puisēns Pinokio’’ (‘’naked buy Pinocchio’’) and a criminal action was initiated.
By evidently misinterpreting the notion of pornography and not considering the content and context of the adverstising material to a sufficient level, freedom of speech is inadequately impaired. For this reason, in my bachelor paper, I have analysed the attitude of mass media and public regarding this scandal to find out the attitude of the society towards the adverstising material of ‘’Leļļu opera’’.
