Atslēgas vārdi: atjaunojamie energoresursi, elektroenerģija no atjaunojamajiem energoresursiem, atbalsta mehānismi, atjaunojamās enerģijas politika. The title of thesis is ”Support Mechanisms for Renewable Energy in the EU Countries and Latvia and Their Comparison”. The aim was to examine renewable energy resources and the usage of their support mechanisms in the EU. Furthermore, the author discussed which types of support mechanisms are the most applicable for Latvia. As a result the author came up with several main conclusions: 1) the costs of renewable energy are decreasing and are becoming more competitive relative to fossil energy; 2) since the introduction of support mechanisms in Latvia, renewable energy has not experienced significant development and efficiency improvements; 3) the support mechanism in Latvia is one of the highest in the EU; thus it should be changed, for instance, by introducing premiums or green certificates.
The thesis consists of 68 pages, divided into 3 parts and 20 subparts. It also contains 1 table, 17 graphs and 3 appendices.
Keyword: renewable energy resources, electricity from renewable energy resources, support mechanisms, policy of renewable energy.
