Atslēgvārdi: traģēdija, leksēma θάνατος The theme of the bachelor paper is “Thanat's Lexico-semantic Description in Ancient Greek Tragedies”. The goal of the paper is to reveal the language characteristics of Ancient Greek tragedies, where the lexeme θάνατος (death) appears its context. The theoretical part includes the information about contemporary scientific literature that concerns the analysis of the mythology, lexicology and tragedy. The applied information is built on the contexts that are taken from three tragedian’s works - Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides.
Death is an integral part in tragedies that, according to Aristotle’s spread theories, helps to evoke the purification of soul’s emotional experience. In the paper, using Lexico- semantic and contextual analysis method, the description of lexeme θάνατος is revealed that is applied in the tragedies.
