The article is dedicated to the understanding of religion in the classic Phenomenology of religion and in the post-modern one in the Western Europe. The second part of the article is devoted to the Latvian Phenomenology of religion of the twenties-thirties of the XX century. The problem is that Phenomenology of religion and the Comparative religion on the whole today ignore the classic categories of the Sacred and the religious experience applying to their unverifiable character. Is the methodology of sciences appropriate for the study of religion? Does the Comparative religion have its own object of research? Which paradigm of religion is appropriate for Latvian Comparative religion? Those are the questions we try to answer in the article.
