The present Bachelor thesis examines the use of idioms in business articles. The goal of this research is to study the use of idioms, focusing on the peculiarities of using animal idioms in the headings of ‘The Economist’ and the ‘Investor’s Business Daily’ business articles. In this paper the idioms are analyzed according to their structure, placement in the sentence and sentence type in which they appear. The author applied this idiom classification by Seidl and McMordie (1978) based on the syntactic level, with a special focus on the parts of speech and Verspoor and Sauter’s (2000) theory based on sentence type analysis. The most frequent type of animal idiom in the selected business headings was noun phrase animal idiom. The most common place of animal idiom in the heading of business articles is the end of declarative sentence. The interpretation of the processed data led to the conclusion that animal idioms are widely used in the headings of business articles.
