Maģistra darba Metafora sengrieķu medicīnas tekstos: Galēns mērķis ir pētīt metaforu un tās funkcijas sengrieķu ārsta Galēna medicīnas tekstos. Līdz šim nav veikti atsevišķi pētījumi par Galēna medicīnas tekstu valodu. Darbā metafora pētīta Galēna traktātā Par ēdienu spēju.
Darba teorētiskais pamats ir balstīts antīko teorētiķu definējumos par metaforu un mūsdienu zinātniskajā literatūrā par metaforu, tās fenomenu un funkcionēšanu zinātniskā tekstā, kā arī par sengrieķu medicīnu. Pētījuma prakstiskajā daļā sniegts ieskats traktāta saturā, analizētas un tematiski klasificētas metaforas un atklāta to funkcija.
Metafora nav tikai tēlainas valodas sastāvdaļa, tā ieņem stabilu vietu zinātniskā tekstā, un Galēna traktāts Par ēdienu spēju ir antīkās pasaules zinātnisks teksts. Tajā metafora palīdz izziņā, skaidrojot ēdienu īpašības, gremošanas sistēmas darbību un cilvēka ķermeņa uzbūvi.

The theme of the master’s thesis is Metaphor in Ancient Greek Medical Texts: Galen. This research aims to explore the use of metaphors and their functions in the ancient greek physician Galen’s medical texts. In this thesis, metaphors have been explored in Galen’s treatise On the Properties of Foodstuffs.
The theoretical part is based on theories of the ancient world and contemporary scientific literature about metaphors, their occurences and functions in scientific texts and in ancient greek medicine. The practical part of this thesis deals with a concise summary of the treatise subject and explores the themes and the functions of its metaphors.
Metaphors are not only the component of figurative language, they also take stable positon in scientific text. In this treatise, metaphors aid in understending, helping to explain the properties of foodstuffs, the digestive system and human physique.
