E. Gaskelas romāni ekokritiskā skatījumā
Zusammenfassung
Šis bakalaura darbs veltīts tēmai E. Gaskelas romānu izpēte ekokritiskā skatījumā. Lai gan līdz šim Lielbritānijā galvenokārt romantisma autoru darbi pētīti ekokritiskā skatījumā, nav pamatota iemesla, lai nepaplašinātu izpētes lauku. Turklāt romantisma literārajos darbos daba netiek nopietni apdraudēta, kamēr E. Gaskelas industriālie romāni var tikt uzskatīti par vērtīgu materiālu, jo tajos atspoguļojas patiesie draudi videi, kuri rodas no nepārdomātas cilvēku darbības. Šīs izpētes mērķis ir paplašināt lauku koncentrējoties ne tikai uz dabas atspoguļojumu, bet arī uz industriālajās pilsētās vērojamo cilvēku veidoto vidi, kurās mitinājās lielākā daļa 19. gadsimta rakstnieku, tai skaitā E. Gaskela. Rezultāti parāda, ka Gaskela lielu uzmanību piešķir cilvēka un tā vides savstarpējai saistībai, atspoguļojot vides problēmas un to radīto kaitējumu.

Gaskell’s novels from the point of view of ecocriticism.Although ecocritical approach to the study of literature in Britain has thus far been mostly limited to Romantic writers, no valid motifs can be found for not extending its borders. Moreover,the nature depicted in Romantic writings is not seriously endangered while the true danger coming from inconsiderate human activity towards environment can be observed in E. Gaskell’s industrial novels, which makes them a valuable source for ecocritical study.The purpose of this research is to extend the borders by focusing not only on the representation of nature, but also on the built environment existing within industrial cities, where most of the 19th century writers including E. Gaskell resided.The results reveal that Gaskell constantly emphasises the interrelation that exists between human beings and the place which they inhabit drawing attention to environmental issues
