The aim of the Master thesis is depiction of the society in contemporary dystopian literature. The comparatively new genre of modern literature dystopia originated in the twentieth century creates terrifying and dark anti-utopias. A dystopian narrative parodies and criticizes utopian dreams of perfect societies; by showing these societies as totalitarian states with citizens whose rights are infringed. Dystopia expresses dissatisfaction with the existing reality and indicates problems of the today’s society and as the result, more and more dystopian or apocalyptic novels and films are becoming popular and demanded by spectators. Also, today’s dystopian narrative tends to present gloomy future communities as realistic as possible. These communities are very divergent in their divisions, they represent unflattering future existence, but still they are attractive in some wicked and inhuman conception, because they warn about things that should not happen.
