Elevated cholesterol levels can increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, wich is the main cause of death worldwide. Cholesterol level can be adjusted both with lifestyle changes and use of cholesterol-reducing drugs such as statins. The aim of the Bachelor’s Thesis was to compare the efficiency of the original and generic statin drugs prescribed in the family doctor’s practice to patients with elevated cholesterol level in the period from 2009. to 2012. January. Tasks: using data from patient’s prescriptions to select patients with elevated cholesterol level, and evaluating blood tests to compare the effectiveness of used statins. Results: The highest efficiency of atorvastatin showed original drug Sortis, wich was prescribed in 38% of cases and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triacylglycerid (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) rates also was reached in 86% of cases by Sortis. In most (37%) cases when there was a failure to achieve the desired statin effect family doctor changed the drug dose.
