The scientific literature shows that a lunasin is found in three plants of Solanaceae family.
Our aim of the study was to determine whether lunasin is found in potato, which also belongs to the Solanaceae family, as well as in potato seeds. Lunasin was searched and peptides extracted from tubers of ten potato genotypes and from seeds of five genotypes, and its concentration was determined by liquid chromatography / mass spectrometry tandem method. Results showed that the tubers and seeds of the analyzed potato varieties and genotypes do not contain lunasin. In addition, we performed experiments with rodent food pellets containing cereals like wheat and corn, and we found lunasin in these pellets at concentration of 0.02 to 0.07 mg / g.
