Bakalaura darbā “Dzimtes (gender) stereotipi latviešu un krievu valodā iznākošajos sieviešu žurnālos „Cosmopolitan” laikposmā no 2002. maija līdz 2003. gada decembrim” ir aplūkoti dažādi dzimtes konstruēšanas aspekti divos starptautiskā zīmola pārstāvošos medijos, kas ir vienoti pēc savas uzbūves struktūras, taču atšķirīgi ar nacionalitātes diktētajām iezīmēm, tirāžu, publikāciju apjomu, pastāvēšanas ilgumu un redakcijas finansiālajām iespējām.
Darba pirmajā daļā ir sniegts ieskats dzimtes studiju nozīmei sociālajās zinātnēs, kā arī izklāstītas dzimtes teorētiskās pamatnostādnes. Otrajā daļā ir aprakstīti dzimtes stereotipi, to izcelsme, uzturēšana un maiņa, tai skaitā arī masu mediju loma dzimtes stereotipu veidošanas procesā. Turpmākajā nodaļā ir raksturotas pētniecības metodes, kas tiek pielietotas darba empīriskajā daļa.
Bakalaura darbā tiek aplūkota sieviešu žurnālu specifiska drukāto mediju vidē, aprakstīta “Cosmopolitan” zīmola unikalitāte, tā pastāvēšanas vēsture, kā arī tā ienākšana Latvijas un Krievijas plašsaziņas līdzekļu tirgū.
Empīriskajā daļā ar kontentanalīzes palīdzību tiek noteikts, kādas tēmas pētāmajos objektos tiek aprakstītas visvairāk, kā arī skatīts, ko par būtiskāko, uzrunājot auditoriju, atzīmē medija galvenie redaktori. Savukārt analizējot krievu un latviešu žurnālu “Cosmopolitan” dzimtes diskursu, ir konstatēts, kādi ar dzimti saistīti stereotipi visbiežāk tiek izplatīti šajos izdevumos. The author in her bachelor’s thesis “The gender stereotypes in the Latvian and Russian issues of the women magazines “Cosmopolitan” in a period from May, 2002, until December, 2003” examines various aspects of the gender construing in two magazines representing the international trademark, which are of similar structure, but differ by the characteristics determined by the nationality, circulation, volume of publications, the length of existence and financial opportunities of the editor’s office.
The first part of the thesis provides an insight in the role of the gender studies in the social sciences, as well as expounds the fundamental formulations of the gender. The second part describes the stereotypes of the gender, their origins, maintenance and change, including the role of the mass media in the process of the development of the gender stereotypes. The next chapter characterizes the research methods used in the empirical part of the thesis.
The bachelor’s thesis examines the specifics of the female magazines in the environment of the printed media, describes the uniqueness of the “Cosmopolitan” brand, the history of its existence, as well as its entry in the mass media market of Latvia and Russia.
Empirical part through the contents analysis established what topics in the objects under the research are described the most often, as well as examined what are the most important issues, while addressing the audience, are emphasized by the senior editors of the media. However, while analyzing the discourse of the gender in the Russian and Latvian editions of the “Cosmopolitan”, the author has established what stereotypes associated with the gender are most widely used in these editions.
