Maģistra darba mērķis ir atklāt, kā laikraksts „Latvijas Avīze” reprezentē laukus un lauksaimniecību pēc Latvijas iestāšanās Eiropas Savienībā, vai tiem piešķir latviešu nacionālās identitātes vērtību nozīmi.
Teorija aplūko reprezentāciju, nācijas kultūru, kolektīvo atmiņu un identitāti, ietver identitātes „latvieši – zemnieku tauta” vēsturiskās attīstības aprakstu un raksturo lauku un lauksaimniecības mūsdienu apstākļus.
Diskursa vēsturiskās analīzes un kontentanalīzes rezultāti liecina, ka „Latvijas Avīzes” (2004–2008) reprezentācijā lauki un lauksaimniecība joprojām ir latviešu nacionālās identitātes vērtības, taču notiek to pārskatīšana un atsacīšanās no vairākām to tradicionālajām iezīmēm postmodernitātes, vērtību fragmentācijas ietekmē.

The aim of the master thesis is to find out how the daily newspaper „Latvijas Avīze” represents country and agriculture after Latvia’s entrance in the European Union. Does the newspaper allocate them as values of Latvian national identity?
The theoretical base consists of the sections about representation, nation culture, collective memory and identity, description of the national identity „Latvians – farmers’ nation” in its historical evolution as well as a survey of the contemporary conditions of the country and agriculture.
Discourse-historical analysis and content analysis show that the country and the agriculture still are the values of the Latvian national identity in the representation in „Latvijas Avīze”. At the same time it experiences a revision and renouncement of several traditional features due to the postmodernity and value fragmentation.
