In present work nonlinear deformation and failure of CFRP-confined concrete specimens was investigated.
It was shown that the confinement greatly increases the ultimate compressive strength and axial strain of the confined concrete. However, this effect reduces with the increase of plain concrete compressive strength (concrete batch).
The formulae for the strength prediction of confined concrete was recommended. It was found that the loading path of confined concrete in the normalized axial stress – lateral strain space for all batches and wrapping thicknesses merge to one mastercurve which approaches the strength line when the load exceeds the strength of plain concrete.
The deformability of confined concrete was analyzed. The model for the prediction of tangent modulus and ultimate axial strain was developed.
The work was carried out in the Institute of Polymer Mechanics University of Latvia (LU PMI).
