Bakalaura darbā aprakstīts un analizēts pilsētas-lauku mijiedarbības jēdziens un koncepts, tā definēšanas un pētīšanas metodika ārvalstīs un nozarē veiktie pētījumi Latvijas teritorijā, detalizētāk aprakstot Pierīgas reģionu un tam raksturīgās plūsmas.
Gan pasaulē, gan Latvijā pilsētas-lauku savstarpējā mijiedarbība kā koncepts pētīts salīdzinoši maz, parasti uzmanību koncentrējot vai nu uz lauku teritoriju attīstības veicināšanu vai pilsētas izplešanās procesu ierobežošanu un tās dominanci reģionā. Koncepta duālās dabas dēļ pētnieki īpaši pēdējā laikā sākuši uzsvērt mijiedarbības un tai raksturīgo plūsmu nozīmīgumu abu iesaistīto pušu sabalansētas attīstības veidošanā.

Both in the world and especially in Latvia urban-rural relationships, viewed as a concept, has been studied rather poorly usually concentrating researchers attention on either rural development promotion or the limitation of suburbanization and urban dominance. Due to the duality of the concept, especially in the last years researchers have started to emphasize these relationships and peculiar flows that are essential for integrated development on both involved sides.
