Viktorijas laikmeta vērtības māsu Brontē romānos

Abstract

Šajā bakalaura darbā tiek pētītas Viktorijas laikmeta vērtības, analizējot māsu Brontē romānus. Darba 19. gadsimtā Lielbritānijā pastāvošo pamatvērtību analīze, kā arī to salīdzinājums ar vērtībām, kas tiek atspoguļotas Šarlotes, Emīlijas un Annas Brontē romānos. Darba teorētiskajā daļā tiek apskatīti 19. gadsimta vēsturiskie, politiskie un reliģiskie apstākļi, kā arī Viktorijas laikmeta sabiedrības ideoloģija, morāles vērtības un dzimtes lomas un to ietekme uz Viktorijas laikmeta romānu attīstību un popularitāti. Bakalaura darbs saista teoriju ar praksi, pievēršot uzmanību māsu Brontē dzīvei un tās ietekmei uz viņu romāniem, kā arī tā laika sociālo normu atspoguļojumam autoru romānos. Darba secinājumi tiek izdarīti, balstoties uz Šarlotes Brontē romāna „Džeina Eira”, Emīlijas Brontē romāna „Kalnu aukas” un Annas Brontē romāna „Vaildfelholas iemītniece” analīzi. Pētījuma rezultāti rāda, ka romāni „Džeina Eira”, „Kalnu aukas” un „Vaildfelholas iemītniece” ir Viktorijas laikmeta literatūras klasika. Dažas Viktorijas laikmeta vērtības šajos darbos tiek slavinātas, savukārt citas tajā pašā laikā - kritizētas.

The present paper investigates Victorian values on the example of the novels by Brontë sisters. The paper aims at analysing the standard values that existed in the nineteenth century Britain and comparing them against the values that are reflected in the novels by Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë. The theoretical part of the paper deals with the historical, political, social and religious background of the nineteenth century. It gives an insight into the ideology, morals, values and gender roles of the Victorian society and the effect they produced on the development and popularity of the Victorian Novel. The paper relates theory to practice by paying close attention to the life of Brontë sisters and its influence upon their works, as well as analyzing how the authors depict social norms and conventions of that time. The conclusions drawn are based on the analysis of “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte, “Wuthering Heights” by Emily and “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall” by Anne Brontë. The results obtained indicate that “Jane Eyre”, “Wuthering Heights” and “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall” are the classics of Victorian literature that praise some of the Victorian values and question others.
