Darbības vārda lietošana britu un amerikāņu angļu valodā

Abstract

Darbs apskata likumus, kas nosaka darbības vārda formu lietojumu un to svarīgākās atšķirības britu un amerikāņu angļu valodas varietātēs. Darba mērķis ir definēt terminus dialekts un varietāte, aprakstīt metodes, kas tiek lietotas vienas valodas varietāšu salīdzināšanai, iepazīties ar atbilstošu teorētisko materiālu par darbības vārda formu lietojumu britu un amerikāņu angļu valodā, apskatīt darbības vārda lietojuma atšķirības šajās angļu valodas varietātēs, kā arī noskaidrot vai šīs atšķirības pastāv arī mūsdienu britu un amerikāņu angļu valodā. Darbā ir izpētīta britu un amerikāņu angļu valodas oriģinālliteratūra, lai atrastu piemērus, kas atspoguļo darbības vārda lietojumu britu un amerikāņu valodā. Pateicoties šiem piemēriem var secināt, ka darbības vārda lietojuma atšķirībām mūsdienu britu un amerikāņu angļu valodā ir tendence izzust.

The bachelor thesis focuses on the rules governing the use of the verb forms in British and American English in which the most important differences between the two varieties are observed. The purpose of the research paper is to define the terms dialect and variety, to describe methods used to compare varieties of a single language, to introduce the relevant theoretical material on the use of the verb forms in British and American English, to discuss the differences in the use of the verb in the two varieties of English, as well as to find out whether these differences are observed in Modern British and American English. Original British and American literature is analysed in order to obtain examples illustrating the use of the verb forms in British and American English. On the basis of the data obtained in the course of the empirical research, a conclusion can be drawn that there is a tendency for the differences in the use of the verb in Modern British and American English to disappear.
