The first chapter concentrates on the topicality of genres, theory on genre analysis, the connection between genre, register and text type, the taxonomy of genres and the differences between top-down and bottom-down approaches towards move analysis.
The second chapter deals with the genre of corporate press release and its communicative purpose as well as analytically reviews the theories on genre analysis and the models for the analysis proposed by Swales, Bhatia and Catenaccio. The practical part holds the analysis of the corpus comprising five corporate press releases issued by the company Microsoft. Basically, the analysed press releases have the same communicative purpose. Rhetorical moves analysis shows that all seven moves are present in five press releases and can be organized recursively, however steps, due to the difference in topics the press release convey, are not invariably present.
