GNU/Linux operētājsistēmas lietojuma analīze darbstacijas vidē

Abstract

Maģistra darbā tiek aplūkota GNU/Linux kā alternatīvas operētājsistēmas izmantošana dominējošās Microsoft Windows operētājsistēmas vietā darbstacijas vidē. Lai veiktu nodrošinātu teorētisko bāzi praktiskajai darba daļai, tiek izpētīta GNU/Linux operētājsistēmas grafiskās lietotāja saskarnes uzbūve, atlasīti tipiskākie mājas datorā veicamie uzdevumi un uzskaitīta un analizēta abās operētājsistēmās pieejamā lietojumprogrammatūra šo uzdevumu izpildei. Darba praktiskajā daļā uz galddatora tiek instalēti dažādi GNU/Linux distributīvi un ar izvirzīto uzdevumu palīdzību tiek vērtēts attiecīgā distributīva potenciāls. Darba rezultātā ir apkopotas notestēto GNU/Linux distributīvu sekmes uzdevumu veikšanā, un uz to pamata izteikti secinājumi par GNU/Linux operētājsistēmas spēju aizstāt Microsoft Windows darbstacijas vidē.

This Master's thesis investigates the use of GNU/Linux operating system as a replacement for the dominating Microsoft Windows operating system in workstation environment. To provide the theoretical basis for the practical part of the thesis, the structure of the graphical user inteface of GNU/Linux operating system is examined, the most typical tasks on a home computer are selected and software used on both operating systems for the completion of these tasks is selected and analysed. In the practical part of the thesis different GNU/Linux distributions are installed and their potential is examined by using the selected tasks. In the conclusion of the thesis performance results of the tested GNU/Linux distributions are gathered, and on the basis of these results statements are given about the possibility of GNU/Linux operating system to replace Microsoft Windows in workstation environment.
