Ekonomika un politika šobrīd ir kļuvušas par visvairāk apspriestajām jomām masu medijos. Lai raisītu lasītāju interesi par rakstiem šajās jomās, tiek izmantoti dažādi lingvistiski līdzekļi. Jēdzieniskās metaforas var tikt uztvertas kā būtiski lingvistiski līdzekļi, kas tiek izmantoti, lai sasniegtu rakstu mērķi. Šī pētījuma uzdevums bija identificēt tipiskākās politisko un ekonomikas metaforu avota jomas un izskaidrot kā metaforas palīdz valodas lietotājiem saprast mērķa jomu, izmantojot avota jomu. Jēdzienisko metaforu lietojuma rakstos par ekonomiku un politiku, kas publicēti ziņu izdevumā The Economist, kvalitatīvās analīzes rezultātā tika secināts, ka, izmantojot jēdzieniskās metaforas, rakstu autoriem ir iespēja izklāstīt konkrētu tēmu labāk un padarīt tekstu daudz izteiksmīgāku, lai raisītu lasītāja interesi par rakstiem ekonomikas un politikas jomā. Economy and politics have become the most discussed areas in the mass media. In order to arouse readers’ interest in the articles written in the field of politics and economics, different linguistic means are used. Conceptual metaphors could be regarded as relevant linguistic means used to achieve the goal of the articles. The aim of the present research was to identify the most typical source domains of political and economic metaphors and explain how the metaphors help the users of the language understand the target domain, using the source domain. As a result of the qualitative analysis of the use of conceptual metaphors in the economic and political articles published in the news magazine The Economist, it is possible to conclude that using conceptual metaphors, authors have an opportunity to describe a particular theme to the reader better and make the text expressive in order to arouse the reader’s interest in political and economic articles.
