Antīkajā traģēdijā praktiski neatņemama sastāvdaļa ir atriebība. Tā figurē teju vai jebkurā šī žanra darbā, dažkārt ļoti tiešā veidā, kā galvenais motīvs, citreiz tikai epizodiski. Katrs traģēdiju autors ir pieskāries šai tēmai un izmantojis to sava traģiskā stāsta veidošanā, taču Eiripīda darbi izceļas uz citu antīko autoru fona ar literārām īpašībām, kas liek viņa darbus uzlūkot gluži citā līmenī, īpaši saistībā ar atriebības motīvu.
Darba mērķis ir aplūkot atriebības veidus un lomu Eiripīda traģēdijās, kā arī novērtēt šī motīva nozīmi traģiskā stāstījuma veidošanā. Uzdevumi mērķa sasniegšanai ir daudzpusīgi attēlot un skaidrot mītu/tēlu lomu atriebības kontekstā un noskaidrot traģēdijās izmantotos atriebību veidus, iemeslus un izpausmes, kā arī to funkciju.
Rezultātā paredzēts izvērtēt sekojošo hipotēzi - Eiripīda traģēdijās atriebības motīvs ir īpaši izteikts un attiecīgās traģēdijas ietvaros veic neatņemamu funkciju traģisma veidošanā. Vengeance is an integral part of nearly any ancient tragedy often featuring as the main motif. Every author of ancient tragedies has made use of it in the makings of his tragic story; however the works of Euripides excel among others with literary characteristics raising them to another level, especially with regards to the incorporated acts of vengeance.
The aim of this study is to examine the types and roles of vengeance in Euripides’ tragedies as well as evaluate the significance of this motif in the forming of the tragic in a given work of tragedy. In pursuit of this aim the role of myths and characters in relation to vengeance will be portrayed and explained and types, causes and effects of vengeance as well as its function will be determined.
As a result the following hypothesis will be assessed - the motif of vengeance in Euripides’ tragedies is particularly outspoken and performs an integral function of forming the tragic.
