Zusammenfassung
Bakalaura darbā uzmanība tiek vērsta uz politiskās runas retoriku, tās mērķiem un ietekmi uz klausītājiem. Darba mērķis ir parādīt tēlainās izteiksmes līdzekļu daudzveidību un to funkcijas politiskajā diskursā, kā arī izpētīt politiķa izvēlēto tēlaino izteiksmes līdzekļu ietekmi uz auditoriju. Autore ir izanalizējusi tēlainās izteiksmes līdzekļu lietojumu septiņās plaši zināmās Amerikas Savienoto Valstu prezidenta Baraka Obamas politiskajās runās, kas ir saistītas ar karadarbību Irākā. Diskursa analīzē iegūtie dati atklāj galvenās tēlainās izteiksmes līdzekļu funkcijas, kuras ir pārliecināt un piesaistīt klausītājus. Tika secināts, ka Baraks Obama pielieto dažādus tēlainās izteiksmes līdzekļus, atkarībā no runas funkcijas un politiskā vēstījuma. Šī pētnieciskā darba rezultāti var būt noderīgi studentiem un pētniekiem, kuriem interesē valodniecība, kā arī valodas loma politikā.

The goal of the research was to show the variety and functions of linguistic means in political discourse and to investigate the effect of the politician’s choice of rhetorical devices on the audience. The author has analysed the use of rhetorical devices in seven well-known political speeches on Iraq war delivered by President of the United States of America Barack Obama. The obtained data from the discourse analysis reveals the main functions of the employed rhetorical devices, which are: to persuade and attract the attention of the audience. The conclusions that Barack Obama makes use of different linguistic means in his political speeches depending on the function of the speech and the political message he might want to convey have been drawn. The results of this study can be useful for students and scholars who are interested in the study of linguistics and language use in politics, and who recognize the importance of rhetorical devices as an important means of a persuasive political speech.
