Konkrētais pētījums ir veltīts ķeltu un skandināvu ietekmes uz angļu un skotu tautas balādi novērtēšanai. Pētījumā procesā tikai pētīti ne tikai formāli pierādījumi mīta ietekmei aizgūtu motīvu un struktūru veidā, bet tika arī pievērsta uzmanība mīta stimulējošai nozīmībai cilvēces radošajā darbībā. Pētījums ietver arī pirmatnējās mutvārdu dzejas rašanās mīta un rituāla sinkrētisma apstākļos analīzi, pievēršot uzmanību šī sinkrētisma saistībai ar balādes žanra uzbūvi, kur vienāda nozīme ir gan stāstījumam, gan melodijai.
Teorētiskais pamats šim pētījumam sastāv no Elijas Meļetinska un Džozefa Kembela pētījumiem par folkloras vēsturi, mīta un rituāla nozīmi folkloras izcešanās, un to izpausmi dažādos folkloras žanros. Karla Gustava Junga arhetipu teorija tika izmantota bieži sastopamu līdzīgu britu balāžu tēmu un motīvu analīzē. Strukturālisma teorijas pamatnostādnes tika pielietotas analizējot sintagmātisko attiecību esamību mitoloģijā un to pārnešanu uz citiem folkloras žanriem, šai gadījumā balādēm. .
The present research has been devoted to the examination of Celtic and Nordic myth influence on the folk ballads of Scotland and England. Not only formal results of myth influence have been examined in the form of borrowed motifs and structures but the significance of myth as the stimulus of human creativity has been analysed. It has also been investigated how primitive oral poetry emerged within the primitive syncretism of myth and ritual and how this has affected the genre or ballads, where text and music is of equal significance.
The theoretical basis of the present research has been combined from the studies of folklore history and the influence of myth in folklore origin, the significance of ritual and its manifestation in folklore, represented by researches of Eleazar Meletinsky and Joseph Campbell. C.G.Jung’s notion of archetypes has been applied in the formulation of recurrent themes and motifs in British ballads. Structuralism theory has been aplied since the concepts of syntagmatic relationships in mythology have been transferred to folklore, in this case ballads.
