Šis bakalaura darbs apskata retorisko līdzekļu izmantošanu, mērķi un ietekmi Baraka Obamas un Mita Romnija politiskās runās 2012. gada ASV prezidenta vēlēšanās. Par vienu no nozīmīgākajiem notikumiem amerikāņu politikā 2012. gadā var uzskatīt šīs vēlēšanas. Darba mērķis bija izpētīt kā retoriskie līdzekļi varēja palīdzēt politiķiem sasniegt ticamību un pārliecināt klausītājus balsot par vienu no kandidātiem. Lai sasniegtu šo mērķi, tika izpētītas politiskās runas, kuras bija teiktas vēlēšanas sezonas sākumā un beigās, izmantojot diskursa analīzi kā pētījuma metodi. Rezultāti rāda, ka efektīvs retorisko līdzekļu lietojums var ietekmēt klausītāju domas un balsojuma izvēli, kas var mainīt politiskās vēstures gaitu. Pētījuma rezultāti var tikt izmantoti tālākai izpētei par retorisko līdzekļu efektivitāti politiskās runās.

This election can be considered as one of the most significant events in the American politics in 2012. The aim of the research was to examine the rhetorical devices which might have helped the politicians to achieve credibility and to persuade the audience to vote for one of the candidates. In order to achieve the aim, discourse analysis as a research method was applied to the comparative analysis of the political speeches delivered by both politicians at the beginning and at the end of the election season. The results of this investigation show that the effective use of rhetorical devices may affect the audience, and it can move listeners to particular action that can change the course of political history. The results of the research can be useful for doing further research on the efficiency of rhetorical devices in political speeches.
