Darba praktiskajā daļā tiek analizētas reklāmas no latviešu vīriešu dzīves stila žurnāliem. Veikts kvantitatīvo datu salīdzinājums ar G.Asares (2006) iepriekš veiktu pētījumu. Rezultāti liecina, ka produktus vīriešiem visbiežāk reklamē, izmantojot varas distances kultūras dimensiju. Datu salīdzinājums ar iepriekš veikto G.Asares pētījumu norāda, ka ievērojami pieaudzis pilnībā latviski tulkoto imidža reklāmu skaits, kā arī ir tendence samazināties to reklāmu skaitam, kurās latviešu un angļu valoda tiek sajaukta, veidojot divu valodu hibrīdu vienā tekstā. This paper explores the main issues related to the cultural and linguistic factors influencing the translation of advertisements. The theoretical part of this paper explores the relation between culture and advertising, as well as discusses the framework of intercultural research developed by Geert Hofstede and Latvian advertising language. It is followed by an analysis of advertisements found in Latvian men’s lifestyle magazines. Results indicate that when advertising these products marketers tend to operate within the power distance cultural dimension. When compared with the results of previous research (Asare 2006), it can be observed that the number of advertisements fully translated into Latvian is greatly increased since 2006 and there are fewer advertisements in which Latvian and English are mixed forming a hybrid of two languages within the same text.
