In the last twenty years both the stance studies and the business communication have become of great importance in linguistics as well as in business. The purpose of the present bachelor theses is to analyse and compare English and French stance-taking in business communication, namely two advertising genres, book blurbs and advertorials, in order to discover whether there is a difference in terms of the stance-taking linguistic means, given the fact that the target consumer cultures differ, and what implications such difference may suggest for a business. The main research method applied to the present paper was corpus analysis that was aimed at development of English and French comparable parallel corpora of 24.000 words in total, and where the parallelism was maintained by the analysis of two types of advertising, book blurbs and advertorials. The tools for corpora development and analysis were image scanner and the following software: ABBYY Screenshot Reader, Microsoft Word, Stanford Long-Linear Part-Of-Speech tagger and Wordsmith 6. The hypothesis of the paper was validated, because the stance-taking in the corpora was divergent not only in terms of advertising genres, but also the number of stance markers according to their sub-categories in English and French corpora was different. The conclusions of the study suggest that in order to be more successful at attraction of the target consumers a company has to master the lexical strategies of advertising in order not to sound foreign and to make the communication with the target consumers more effective.
