X-ray computed tomography is a widely applied method of diagnostic radiology. It relies on ionizing radiation so a compromise between a quality of image and the radiation dose patients receive must be met.
The reduction of radiation doses is especially important in pediatrics because children are more vulnerable to the ionizing radiation. CT protocols are being developed specifically adapted for work with children in order to reduce risks of complications.
The goal of this study is to find out how doses of radiation vary when using low radiation dose protocols and patient-centered CT imaging.
Tasks of this study are to analyze literature about computed tomography and its protocols, to analyze effects of ionizing radiation on organism, to compare how usage of various protocols affects the received doses of radiation, and to draw conclusions based on observed results.
Keywords: computed tomography, pediatrics, low radiation dose protocol, patient-centered CT imaging.
