The aim of the Master’s thesis is to determine the ecological status of Riga`s small watercourses using biological and hydromorphological quality criteria. In order to achieve that the samples of benthos were collected during the 2011th September period, benthic macroinvertebrates were studied, as well as river hidromorphological conditions were assessed with River Habitat Survey (RHS) method. The data represent the ecological status of Riga`s small watercourses and point to the overall degradation, as confirmed by all the signs of values.
Key words: urban stream syndrome, benthic macroinvertebrates, saprobity, ecological degradation.
