Darbā tiek aplūkota Žanru problēma Šekspīra lugās (ar viņa lugu „Divi veronieši”, „Spītnieces savaldīšana” un „Romeo un Džuljeta” detalizētāku analīzi).
Darbā pētīta Šekspīra mainīgā attieksme pret komisko divās no viņa komēdijām un vienā traģēdijā, kā arī uzstādījums, ka komēdijas no traģēdijām šķir tikai vissmalkākā laika un vietas robeža - ka katra no tām sevī slēpju iespēju vienā mirklī mainīt žanru – un ka šī iespēja ir tā, kas piešķir katrai lugai tās īpašo spēku.
Pētījums sniedz ieskatu Šekspīra lugu žanru sadalījumā, komēdijas un traģēdijas salīdzinājumā, kā arī pēta strīdus saistībā ar komēdiju, kas balstās uz Stīvena Gossona un Tomasa Lodža teorijām, kā arī ietver detalizētāku trīs iepriekšminēto lugu analīzi Elizabetes I valdīšanas laika kontekstā un strīdu saistībā ar komēdijām kontekstā. The work deals with the Problem of Dramatic Genres in Shakespeare’s plays with a deeper analysis of his plays „The Two Gentlemen of Verona”, “The Taming of The Shrew” and “Romeo and Juliet”.
This research investigates Shakespeare’s changing attitudes to the joke in two of his comedies and one tragedy and states that comedies are separated from tragedies only by the narrowest margins of time and space – that each of them harbours the potential to change its genre at a moment’s notice – and that this potential is what gives each play its power.
The work presents short insight into division of Shakespeare’s genres, contrasting comedy and tragedy as well as a research of dispute over a comedy based on theories of Stephen Gosson and Thomas Lodge as well as it includes a more detailed analysis of the three above mentioned plays in the context of Elizabethan period and debate over the function of comic.
