| dc.description.abstract | Šis darbs pēta tās makrolīmeņa teksta problēmas, ar kurām nākas saskarties Latvijas Universitātes studentiem, mācoties salīdzināšanas un kontrasta eseju rakstīšanu angļu valodā. Darba mērķi bija atklāt problemātiskos aspektus augstskolas studentu salīdzināšanas un kontrasta esejās makroteksta līmenī un izstrādāt uzdevumus, lai uzlabotu eseju rakstīšanas prasmes augstskolā. Autore izmantoja gadījuma izpēti, kuras laikā studenti uzrakstīja divas salīdzināšanas un kontrasta esejas, kuras autore izanalizēja. Studenti arī aizpildīja divas aptaujas anketas. Gadījuma izpēte arī iekļāva koriģējošo mācīšanu un grupu darbu, kuri galvenokārt bija vērsti uz studenti zināšanu par eseju struktūras, satura un kohēzijas un saskaņotības uzlabošanu. Rezultāti parādīja, ka studenti būtiski uzlaboja četrus no pieciem aspektiem esejas rakstīšanā. Bakalaura darbu var izmantot angļu valodas nodarbībās, lai uzlabotu salīdzināšanas un kontrasta eseju rakstīšanas mācīšanu.

| dc.description.abstract | The present paper investigates the problems on macro-level that tertiary level students of the University of Latvia face while studying writing of comparison and contrast essays in English. The goals of the present paper were to find out the problematic aspects of tertiary level students’ comparison and contrast essays on macro-level and develop a set of post-writing activities in order to improve essay writing at the tertiary level. The author has conducted a case study, during which the students had to write two comparison and contrast essays, which were analysed. The students also filled in two questionnaires. The case study included remedial teaching and group work, which primarily were focused on the improvement of the students’ knowledge about structure, content and cohesion and coherence. The results showed that students had significantly improved four out of five aspects of essay writing. The bachelor thesis can be used in the English language classroom in order to improve the process of mastering comparison and contrast essays.
