Abstract

Bakalaura darba nosaukums ir “Dzimtes lomas Džeinas Ostinas darbos”. Darba teorētiskajā daļā apskatīta vēsturiskā un politiskā situācija, kurā dzīvoja un savus darbus rakstīja angļu rakstniece Džeina Ostina, kā arī 18.gadsimta Lielbritānijas sabiedrības dzīvesveids kopumā, tur noteiktie uzvedības un savstarpējo attiecību modeļi. Džeina Ostina savos darbos vēlas piesaistīt lasīta uzmanību sievietes tiesībām un iepazīstināt ar sievieti, kura līdzinās mūsdienu modernajai sievietei ar aktīvu dzīvesveidu un spējīgai iestāties par līdzvērtīgām tiesībām sievietēm un vīriešiem. Augstāk minēto tēzi apskata šī darba praktiskā daļa, veicot Džeinas Ostinas darbu un to varoņu analīzi, akcentējot sievietes lomu 18.gadsimta Lielbritānijas sabiedrībā. The title of the Bachelor’s Paper is “Gender Roles in Jane Austen’s Works”. The theoretical part of the Paper deals with the historical context of the 18th century British society and male and female roles in that period of time. The practical part of the Paper carries out the analysis of characters depicted in Austen’s works through the behavioural norms associated with men and women in the context of the specific cultural and social situation. Jane Austen, being aware of new impulses in the society, promoted the changes concerning the traditionally accepted feminine gender role and introduced a new kind of women. The above idea and Austen’s attitude towards the social decorum, which she expresses through her characters, are presented in this Paper. The Paper gives an opportunity to analyse the traditional gender roles which dominated during the 18th century, and new ones–more flexible, introduced by Jane Austen’s works and to compare these norms with the ones that exist in modern times.
