Ametropy is a pathological state of vision, when the rays of light traveling through the optical area, focus not directly on the retina, but before or after it, causing the patient to have an out of focus vision. The different types of ametropy include myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism and presbyopia. A distinction is made between low, middle and high degrees of ametropy.
The highest degree of ametropy can be fully cured by substituting the natural eye lens with multifocal intraocular lens. The patient must understand that this surgery can cause various reactions, that may create the necessity to wear glasses, because of the issues with the close and mid-range vision.
Answers to the questions about these reactions can be answered by the development of new surgical equipment, new and precise surgical devices, as well as qualified and able ophthalmologists.
Today, with the human life expectancy increasing and electric devices like computers, laptops, televisions are used more often, the issue of the patient satisfaction and vision improvement, after surgeries like that, is becoming important.
The purpose of this research is to evaluate changes in the vision functions in patients with high degree ametropy, after refractive lens surgery, not just from a professional, but also from a subjective point of view, studying patient satisfaction and vision improvement after the surgery.
To achieve this goal, it was decided to carry out a metaanalythical research, that would include data gathering and processing about many current researches, related to patients that underwent multifocal intraocular lens implantation. In the course of this research I used AcrySoft ReStor multifocal lens, produced by the Alcon laboratories.
Information from several prominent medical and ophthalmological magazines and Medline research was also part of this project. Researches were analyzed with the object of evaluating data and examining visual acuity parameters, by which to compare, collect and analyze topics of this research.
