Atslēgvārdi: kino, filmu teorijas, kino semiotika, semiotiskā analīze, Vess Anderson The research studies construction of the protagonist's image in Wes Anderson's films “The Royal Tenenbaums”, “Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox”.
The research objective is to examine the theoretical concepts of film semiotics and their application to the analysis of film narrative and specifically to the construction of the main images and characters in Wes Anderson's films.
The theoretical part of the study examines the theoretical aspects of semiotics, film theory, film semiotics and different cinematic semiotic code elements and their use. Description of methodology discusses semiotic analysis, focus group theoretical explanation and motivation of its application as well as the description of the study design.
The empirical part of the study analyzes three Wes Anderson’s films via semiotic analysis with pre-set criteria. It also covers the discussions of the focus group in two different segments of the audience.
The study results show the importance and diversity of film coding as well as its impact on the main characters’ image interpretation.
