In this paper, which contains 41 pages, it is attempted to show the development of education for Latvian folk in 18th century. For the purpose that one could better understand the circumstances of that time, which have promoted or prevented the development of education, in this paper the complex political and religious life is reviewed. The level of education of the peasants in Livonia is also compared with other European countries at that time. In order to gain a full view of education (what did the kids learn and where, how was the school-life organised, etc.), original sources from the Latvian State Historical archive were analized. The information obtained was gathered in 13 tables for a more convenient reception.
