Daiļliteratūras tulkošanā tulkotājam ir dota nosacīta brīvība, lai veiksmīgi adaptētu tekstu mērķauditorijai, taču ir svarīgi saglabāt daiļdarba autora stilu un vēstījumu. Daniela Defo romāns ‘Robinsons Kruzo’ ir viens no nozīmīgākajiem darbiem pasaules literatūrā un tas ir tulkots vairākās valodās, ieskaitot latviešu. Šī darba mērķis ir salīdzināt divus Daniela Defo romāna ‘Robinsons Kruzo’ latviešu tulkojumus. Izmantotās pētīšanas metodes ir literatūras apskats un divu romāna tulkojumu latviešu valodā salīdzinājums. Pētījuma rezultāti uzrāda, ka starp tulkojumiem ir vairākas vērā ņemamas atšķirības, ieskaitot dzēšanu, personvārdu un vietvārdu tulkošanu, kā arī teikumu uzbūvi, kas norāda uz tulkotāju atšķirīgajām pieejām šī darba tulkošanai.

When translating fiction, translator is given certain freedom to adapt the text to the target audience; nevertheless, it is important to retain the author’s style and message. Daniel Defoe’s novel ‘Robinson Crusoe’ is one of the most prominent milestones in the world’s literature, and it has been translated into many languages, including Latvian. The purpose of this paper is to compare two Latvian translations of Daniel Defoe’s novel ‘Robinson Crusoe’. The research methods applied are literature review and comparison of two Latvian translations of the novel. The results of the research show that there are some major differences between the translations, including deletion, translation of proper names and toponyms, and sentence structure, which show the different approaches of the translators.
