Sievietes identitātes meklējumi V. Vulfas romānos „Nakts un diena” un „Uz bāku”

Abstract

Šis bakalaura darbs aplūko pāreju no Viktorijas laikmeta uz modernismu literatūrā un sabiedrībā, kā arī šīs pārejas ietekmi uz V. Vulfas priekšstatiem par romāna būtību. V. Vulfa sāka savu literāro karjeru 1. pasaules kara laikā un kā moderniste juta, ka pastāvošā romānu forma nespēj attēlot mainošos sabiedrības dzīves uztveri. Rezultātā viņa kritizēja vispārpieņemto romānu formu, kuras ierobežojumus viņa juta rakstot romānu ‘’Nakts un diena’’, un centās atrast formu, kura izteiktu viņas pasaules redzējumu. Šis bakalaura darbs uzskatāmi parāda, ka, lai arī V. Vulfas romāni ‘’Nakts un diena’’ un ‘’Uz bāku’’ atšķiras pēc formas, tie aplūko nozīmīgas modernistu romānu tēmas- pastāvošās sabiedrības iekārtas apšaubīšanu un sievietes identitātes meklējumus.

The present Bachelor paper focuses on the transition from Victorianism to Modernism in literature and in the society and on the influence this transition has on V. Woolf’s concept of the novel. V. Woolf started her literary career during World War I and as a modernist writer she felt that the existing form of the novel failed to convey the changing social perception of life. Consequently, she criticized the conventional novel form, whose limits she felt while writing Night and Day, and tried to find a form that would express her vision. The paper demonstrates that, although V. Woolf’s two novels Night and Day and To the Lighthouse are different in form, they deal with the problems that are important in modernist novels: the questioning of the existing structure of society and character’s search for identity.
