ATSLĒGVĀRDI: cistīts, antibakteriālie līdzekļi Cystitis is a bladder mucosal inflammation. Urinary tract infections are the second most common after upper respiratory tract infection. Most infections arise from one type bacteria, Escherichia coli (E. coli), which normally live in the colon and around the anus. In general, women suffer from cystitis more than men. This could be explained by improperly treated infection, that develops in outer reproductive organs, reaches urethra and later the bladder. Cystitis can be a serious health problem if infection spreads to the kidneys.
The purpose of the thesis was to analyse dispensing of cystitis medications in pharmacy „Ruse”. The results reveal that doctors choose antimicrobial therapy with sulfonamide antibiotocs – Sulfamethoxazolum/Trimethoprimum preparations (Berlocid), which were prescribed by gynecologists (39%) and nephrologists (26%). Among over-the-counter medications, cranberry pills and herbal teas were most popular choice for treatment of cystitis symptoms among pharmacy “Ruse” clients.
