Informācijas meklēšanas līdzekļi piedāvā daudzveidīgas informācijas meklēšanas iespējas, no kurām tikai daļu izmanto gala lietotājs. Tāpēc ir nepieciešams apgūt un pilnveidot elektroniskās informācijas meklēšanas prasmes, kā arī veidot informācijas lietotāju izpratni par to, kā informācija ir organizēta, kā izvērtēt tās atbilstību savām vajadzībām un kur vislabāk to meklēt.
Pētījuma mērķis ir padziļināt izpratni par informācijas lietotāju uzvedību informācijas meklēšanas procesā un tā ietekmējošiem faktoriem. Pētījuma gaitā tika izstrādāti informācijas meklēšanas procesa vērtēšanas kritēriji, ar kuru palīdzību tika noteikts, vai un kādā veidā studentu informācijas meklēšanas procesu ietekmē viņu individuālie izziņas stili. Information search tools offer varied information search options, only a part of them are used by the end users. Therefore it is needed to master and improve skills of the electronic information seeking, as well as to develop information users’ comprehension of how the information is organized, how to evaluate its adequacy for their needs and where best of all to seek for it.
The aim of the study is to deepen comprehension of information users’ behaviour inside the information search process and of the factors which affect it. In the process of the study there were developed criteria to evaluate the information search process, on which basis there was defined whether and in what manner individual cognitive styles affect the students’ information search process.
