Antiamerikānisms Latvijā

Abstract

Maģistra darba mērķis ir noskaidrot, kāda attieksme pret ASV pastāv Latvijas jauniešu vidū un kas ir galvenie negatīvās nostājas ierosinātāji – ASV politiskā vai ekonomiskā uzvedība, vai attieksme pret amerikāņu kultūru. Balstoties uz akadēmiskajā literatūrā identificētajiem antiamerikānisma cēloņiem, tika izveidota aptaujas anketa, kas ietvēra jautājumus ar mērķi noskaidrot jauniešu attieksmi pret konkrētām ASV darbībām. Tika noskaidrots, ka attieksme pret dažādiem ASV rīcības aspektiem kopumā ir neitrāla, jauniešiem bieži nav konkrēta viedokļa. Attieksme pret ASV ir labvēlīgāka (67.8 %) nekā attieksme pret amerikāņiem (61.8 %). Izteikti negatīvāka attieksme jauniešiem ir pret ASV politisko uzvedību nekā pret ekonomisko aktivitāti vai kultūru. This research explores the attitudes of young Latvian people towards USA with an aim to determine the prevailing cause of negative sentiments – political behaviour, economic activity or American culture. The main causes of anti-Americanism were identified based on theoretical discussions and were implemented into the questionnaire. The main findings from the analysis are as follows: the general attitudes towards different aspects of U.S. actions are neutral, respondents very often demonstrate lack opinion; the attitudes towards U.S. are more favourable (67.8 %) than attitudes towards Americans (61.8 %); youth have less favourable attitudes towards the political behaviour of U.S. than towards economic activities or American culture. Ethnic minorities show more anti-American sentiments than ethnic Latvians. Key words: anti-Americanism, U.S., imperialism, Americanization, superpower
