Šī darba centrā ir politiskā diskursa metaforas. Darba mērķis ir izpētīt metaforu lietojumu rakstos par politiku dažādās Lielbritānijas avīzēs – The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Sun, The Daily Mirror. This paper focuses on metaphors of political discourse. The goal of the research is to investigate the use of metaphors in articles on politics in the British newspapers The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Sun, The Daily Mirror. In order to prove the hypothesis (metaphors in political articles are used with the aim to attract the readers` attention and to highlight certain political processes in the UK) both theoretical and empirical research methods were used. The material of metaphors and political discourse underwent analysis with the aim of characterizing metaphors in the selected articles. Altogether 144 metaphors were encountered. The majority of them are conventional metaphors – 69 %, original metaphors are applied less frequently – 31%. The most widespread source domains of metaphors are war, animals, and sport. It was concluded that metaphors are applied in order to draw the readers` attention to the content of the articles and to explain political processes effectively.
