Bakalaura darba tēma ir „Pieturas zīmju lietojums saīsinājumos britu un amerikāņu laikrakstos”. Pētījuma mērķis ir noteikt punktu lietojuma iespējamos variantus latīņu saīsinājumos britu un amerikāņu laikrakstos. Darbā tika veiktas abreviatūras teoriju izpēte, kā arī laikrakstu tekstu diskursa analīze. Turklāt, tika izveidots un analizēts elektronisks marķētu piemēru korpuss. Praktiskā pētījuma rezultāti ir parādījuši, ka katrā no trim britu un trim amerikāņu laikrakstiem konstatēts abu interpunkcijas variantu lietojums (ar punktu un bez punkta) vienā vai otrā latiņu saīsinājumā. Iegūtie dati ļauj secināt, ka punktu lietojuma variācijas latiņu saīsinājumos pastāv gan britu, gan amerikāņu laikrakstos. The theme of the Bachelor paper is ‘The Use of Punctuation Marks in the Abbreviations in British and American Newspapers’. The goal of the study is to detect the possible variations of the use of full stops in the Latin abbreviations in British and American newspapers. Analysis of the theory on abbreviations and discourse analysis of newspaper articles have been employed. In addition, the electronically transferable corpus of tagged examples has been generated and analysed. The results of the empirical research have shown that each of the three British and three American newspapers displays both punctuation variants (with and without full stops) in one or another Latin abbreviation. The findings have led to a conclusion that the variations of the full stop usage in Latin abbreviations are present across British and American newspapers.
