Theme of the diploma paper is political communication before elections of 7th and 8th Saeima. The diploma paper consists of two main chapters – theoretical and practical, as well as several sub-chapters.
The author of the paper has advanced and will try to prove the following hypothesis: capacity of political campaign and its resources has impact on voters and it ensures representation in Saeima.
The first theoretical chapter includes description of political communication, definition of public sphere and detailed description of elements of political communication, as well as definition of political marketing and one of the components of political communication – political campaign. Theoretical chapter is based on theories and definition of the following authors: Denton and Woodvard, Perlof and McNair, McQuail and Plumb, as well as Bredook. Communication model of Douns is also described.
The second practical chapter deals with different opinions and researches of media regulation and election regulation in Latvia. It also describes the diverse character of contents of media which is based on the study and conclusions of different researchers. At the end of the practical chapter the author of the paper gives insight into advertising of the parties “Tautas partija” and “Latvijas Ceļš”. Expenses before the elections of 7th and 8th Saeima are analysed, as well as insight into the finances of the other parties that cleared 5% margin and those that did not get into Saeima, is given.
At the end of the study of given theme, the author of the paper comes to a conclusion that it is impossible to prove the advanced hypothesis, since the resources invested by parties is not the only factor that may influence voters and ensure representation in Saeima, because voters may be influenced also by such factors as economical and political situation. Thus, in order to determine the factors that ensure party representation in Saeima, besides capacity of political campaign and its resources, it is necessary to analyse other factors influencing voters.
