Raksturvārdi: ledājūdeņu noteces ielejas, upju ielejas, glacioakvālie nogulumi, fluviālie nogulumi, pieledāja ezeri The doctoral thesis deals with problems of Quaternary geology and geomorphology with respect to development of the hydrographical network at the ice-margin in areas with complicated topography that occurring in the transitional zone between interlobate uplands and glacial lowlands. This study is based on original research data obtained using field techniques, sediment logs, dating results and with GIS tools derived exact spatial adjustment. Based on the investigations in the case areas which embrace transitional zone between the Vidzeme Upland and Northern Vidzeme Lowland, and north-eastern part of the Central Latvian Lowland, time-transgressive development models of the meltwater discharge and drainage of the ice dammed lakes have been developed, as well as studies on drainage of the these basins were carried out. These results allow to assess interconnection between proglacial meltwater drainage system and ice-marginal formations. The results on the formation of the hydrographical network during Late Weichselian termination can be used in landscape palaeogeography and to estimate threats and risk of the modern slope processes and fluvial erosion.
Key words: meltwater drainage valleys, river valleys, glacioaquatic deposits, fluvial sediments, proglacial lakes
