In the modern day, a lot of banks offer acquiring services to their customers through Automated Teller Machines or ATMs. Since this device is a critical piece of the banks infrastructure that is always on display to the customer, it should be tested in every possible way to ensure correct and stable operability. The ATM is a highly configurable piece of equipment, it demands a lot of attention to correctly configure and test its behavior.
The paper “Configurable ATM testing completeness” describes the operating principles of how an ATM operates with the host server control system, and how new functionality is implemented and tested. This paper focuses on the bank side configuration testing. The scope of this paper covers standard ATM functionality, without any focus on the highly specific solutions. Banking experts were surveyed, to identify the methods used to test functionality. After analyzing the results, approaches to testing were refined, offering an improvement into the testing process for a configurable ATM.
