The aim of this study is to compare Salovey and Goldman meta mood construct and Schutte emotional intelligence construct, also to compare psychometric indicators between them. In this study is found how in terms of content and psychometrically are different Salovey and Goldman meta mood construct and Schutte emotional intelligence construct, nevertheless both surveys are based in the same emotional intelligence theory.
Participants of this study are students from different towns of Latvia – Rīga (71%), Liepāja (22%), Ventspils (3%), Rēzekne (3%) and Jūrmala (1%). The age of respondents is between 18 and 33 (M = 22, 9). Size of the sample is 70 people of which 41 are women (59%) and 29 are men (41%).
There are used two surveys in this study. One of them is Trait Meta Mood Scale, (TMMS, Salovey, P., Mayer, J., Goldman, S., Turvey, C., Palfai, T., 1995) which has been adapted in Latvia in 2007 by Dace Vītoliņa and Malgožata Raščevska (Vītoliņa, 2007). Scale has been repeatedly adapted in this study. The second survey is The Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SREIT, Schutte et. al., kā minēts Schutte, Malouff & Bhullar, 2009), which has been adapted in Latvia in 2012 by Jeļena Ņižņika and Viesturs Reņģe (Ņižņika, 2012). Test has been repeatedly adapted in this study.
In theoretical part, there is the answer to first question of this study, that there is some contextual similarities between Salovey and Goldman meta mood construct and Schutte emotional intelligence construct, but in general it can be said that, nevertheless both surveys are based in the same emotional intelligence theory, they are different in terms of content.
In response to the second question of this study about how psychometrically are different these constructs, it can be concluded that repeatedly adapted versions have higher reliability in the sample of Latvia. When mutually compared reliability of both surveys, it can be concluded that Salovey and Goldman Trait Meta Mood Scale has higher reliability than Schutte The Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test. In comparison, scales of both surveys are different because only one scale of each survey can be considered as similar. In general it can be said, that both surveys essentially are unique and are different in terms of psychometric.
