In present study anaerobic fermentation gases were analyzed using automatic methane potential measurement system. The use of crude and analytical glycerol was compared as substrate.
Using automatic methane potential measuring system AMPTS II, there was registered not only methane, but all volume of the common gases other than CO2. Further analysis to determine the gas composition was made using gas chromatography - mass spectrometry. It showed that Enterobacter aerogenes significantly increased hydrogen content of crude glycerol fermentation gases. From fermentation of analytical glycerol the obtained gas volume was higher by 37 to 211%, than crude glycerol in similar circumstances.
Anaerobic fermentation was characterized with pH changes, chemical oxygen demand and microbial colony forming units.
This work also provided theoretical insight on methane, crude glycerol and gas analysis methods.
