This Master thesis is a philosophically historically oriented research on the subject of functionality of notion of sublime and its influence in the framework of musical aesthetics. The research is conditioned to the comprehension of ideas starting with 18th century's German idealistic aesthetical theories of Immanuel Kant and his followers and critics, and ending with idealistic aesthetical theories, which were projected on the philosophy of modern music and linked with the problems of musical aesthetics. Particular attention will be paid to Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche’s concept of philosophy of the music and Richard Wagner’s critical theory of the music, as well as to the definition of musically sublime and its relation to the musical theory and aesthetics. Some research will be done on the relations between musically sublime and the tragical consequences, contrasts of dissonances and consonances, rhythm and overtone’s conception.
