Metaliterārais vēstījums romānā „Džentelmeņa Tristrama Šendija dzīve un uzskati” un tā ekranizācija

Abstract

Maģistra darbā „Metaliterārais vēstījums romānā Džentlmeņa Tristrama Šendija dzīve un uzskati un tā ekranizācijā” ir veikts Lorensa Sterna literārā pirmavota un Maikla Vinterbotoma adaptācijas Tristrams Šendijs: stāsts par gaili un bulli metanaratīvu salīdzinājums. Darba mērķis ir atainot filmas un romāna metanaratīva aspektus un noteikt paņēmienus, kādi ir izmantoti metanaratīvu tekstā adaptējot romāna ekranizācijā. Teorētiskajā daļā ir sniegts izskaidrojums tādiem konceptiem kā metaliterārais un filmu naratīvs, fokalizācija, metaizācijas apstākļi, kā arī metatekstualitātes un metadaptāciju aspekti, kuri ir aktuāli analizējot Tristramu Šendiju. Empīriskajā daļā ir sniegtas atbildes uz pētījuma jautājumiem un tā atklāj, kā Sterna loģiskās hiperonīmijas, analoģijas un attālināšanas paņēmieni Tristrama metatekstuālajos komentāros ‘grāmatā par grāmatas rakstīšanu’ tika ekranizēti ar medialitātes, transmedialitātes un intermedialitātes palīdzību, kā arī ieviešot izmaiņas personāžu fokalizācijā, līdz ar to pārveidojot Lorensa Sterna naratīvu par ‘filmu par filmas filmēšanu’ un saglabājot tā pašrefleksivitāti.

The present Master thesis, “Metafictional Narrative in the Novel The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman and its Adaptation”, focuses on the metafictional nature of Laurence Sterne’s source text and Michael Winterbottom’s screen adaptation Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story. Its goal is to compare the metafictional aspects of the narrative in the novel and in the film to determine what means are used for a adapting a metafictional narrative in the original text for the screen. The theoretical part deals with the concepts of metafictional literary and film narrative, focalisation, conditions for meta-isation as well as aspects of metatextuality and metadaptation pertaining to the analysis of Tristram Shandy. The results of the empirical part answer the research questions and reveal how Sterne’s use of logical hyperonymy, analogy and distancing for creating Tristram’s metatextual commentary in the ‘book about writing a book’ is transferred onto the screen by means of mediality, transmediality and intermediality as well as shifts in types of character focalisation, thus creating a ‘film about shooting a film’, which preserves the self-reflexivity of the story.
