Nabadzības apzīmējumi angļu valodā

Abstract

Bakalaura darba “Nabadzības apzīmējumi angļu valodā” mērķis ir izpētīt nabadzības apzīmējumus angļu valodā izcelsmi, īpašu uzmanību pievēršot to izcelsmei un lietojumam. Pētījuma teorētiskajā daļā sniegts ieskats etimoloģijas zinātnē un vārddarināšanas pamatprincipos, kā arī vārda un termina savstarpējā saistībā. Empīriskajā pētījumā izskatīta arī ar nabadzību saistītā terminoloģija, kas parādījusies 20. gadsimtā un lietota ES un ANO dokumentos. Pētījums parāda, ka lielākā daļa no angļu valodā lietotajiem nabadzības apzīmējumiem ir aizgūti no franču un latīņu valodām laika posmā no divpadsmitā līdz astoņpadsmitajam gadsimtam sabiedrības ekonomiskās attīstības rezultātā. Šobrīd jauni nabadzību raksturojoši termini atklāj mainīgās tendences ekonomikā un politikā.

The purpose of the Bachelor Thesis “Designations of poverty in the English language” is to investigate designations of poverty in the English language focusing on their origin and usage. In the theoretical part of the research insight is provided in the science of etymology and basic principles of word formation as well as the correlation between the word and the term. The empirical research deals with the origin of designations of poverty and allows establishing a timeline of their first recorded use. The empirical research also includes the examination of poverty-related terminology that has emerged during the 20th century and has been used in EU and UN documents. This research has revealed that - most of the designations of poverty used in the English language have been borrowed from French and Latin languages during the period of the 12th - 18th century as a result of the economic development of the society. Nowadays new terms describing poverty appear to reflect changing trends in economy and politics.
